Old Plans & Renders
The renders aren't very good, I couldn't get the roofs and dormers on third floor to stay on, the chimneys are missing, as are a lot of the windows; but it gives you an idea of the mass and scale.

This is such tremendous work! The level of detail is extraordinary, and the layout and overall effect is inspiring. I find such a dearth of plans for the actual grand homes of the day ... I can't seem to find more than five or six, all told. Can you help me in this?
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that the stair from the Morning Room, which is labeled as climbing to the Old Chapel, appears instead to terminate at the floor of Lord Faringdon's bathroom. Is this intentional?
Thank you so much for your feedback! I really appreciate it. :-)
DeleteThe mezzanine rooms do create some confusion on the plan; the old chapel and the breakfast room are both dropped halfway (nine feet) between the ground and first floors, with eight-foot-ceilinged rooms underneath. The stairs from the morning-room rise nine feet to the floor of the old chapel, which leaves a nine-foot clearance underneath Lord Faringdon's bathroom. I should have noted a mezzanine level that is not shown on the plan, underneath the old chapel's choir loft, marked 'smoking room,' where the stairs debouche (if that's the word I mean).
As for more plans of the great houses, I've found quite a few on Pinterest. But while it's easy to find plans of some of the most famous houses, a lot of the other house plans don't exist except in books. Hopefully more will surface on the net in the next couple of years.
Cheers!

Hello Mr. Manners, would you please be so kind as to let me know what software you used to make your stunning floor plans? I really am dying to know... I want to give it a try myself! Thank you for your time (and for your entertaining work).
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning work! Have you managed to complete the render? I'm dying to see the roofline
ReplyDeletewhat program do you use for the floor plans
ReplyDeleteWhat is the estimated square footage per floor and the entire castle?
ReplyDeleteThat castle is absolutely massive! It must be at least 9,800 square meters \ 100,000 square feet!
ReplyDeleteCan you show any pictures of the interior?
